Catching the Big Lynch: The David Lynch DeCal

 *UPDATE* Thanks to all who attended our first class, and we can't wait to have our first real meeting on Wednesday.

We will be screening the short films Six Men Getting Sick, The Alphabet and The Grandmother, as well as the feature films Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and The Elephant Man or INLAND EMPIRE.

We will screen a fifth feature film, the students’ choice from the following selections: Dune, Wild at Heart, Twin Peaks-Pilot, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, Lost Highway, Straight Story, The Elephant Man, or INLAND EMPIRE.

Course Goals
This course will explore the weird, wonderful films of David Lynch and will provide an outlet for both newcomers and Lynch-lovers alike in which to discuss his films.

Through facilitator and student led-discussions, this course will provide an environment in which students can approach, relate, and comprehend Lynch’s difficult body of work.

By approaching Lynch’s cinematic language, this course is also intended to help students develop a unique perspective in which to understand film in general and its unique ability to communicate with an audience.

Students will be evaluated based on attendance, in-class participation, response papers, and a final presentation.

Enrollment Info:

This is a two unit pass/not pass class in the English department. The class can be taken as either English 98 or English 198. Only students with junior standing and above can enroll in 198.

There will be only one section: Wednesdays 7-9 PM.

Enrollment will occur after the first day of classes (WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 6th). All interested students are encouraged to attend---a final class list will be determined by the second week.
